Signs, Signals, and Pavement Markings Road Sign Quiz . Each student should be provided with the answer sheet found on the last note page of this document. . A leading question may be used… “What does the term redundancy mean to you?” . In most cases the students will not relate that each sign, signal, and marking is designed to provide information about traffic flow. Each sign gives the information some meaning in several ways to help the driver seek driving information that is critical. . Sign redundancy includes shape, then color, then symbolism, then text to provide information. Students should review a section of the Virginia manual for Drivers to see how this redundancy works in Virginia signs and markings. “For instance, what does a yellow line mean to a driver on the roadway?” . The yellow line primary function is to separate traffic lanes going in opposite directions while white lines separate traffic flow moving in the same direction.
