Peer Support: Transformative outcomes can be greatly enhanced when the person is inspired, encouraged and empowered by a person who has also “been there!” Adult Learning Patterns: When instruction is designed to accommodate how adults learn and retain information, then learning transfer and outcomes will be maximized!

% of what they learn through a lecture % of what they learn through reading % of what they learn through audio visual presentations % of what they learn through demonstration % of what they learn through discussion % of what they learn through practice by doing % of what they learn through immediate use of learning and teaching others ZZZz Adults retain: Based on research by the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD)

Adults will retain 90 % of what they learn through immediate use of learning and teaching others The graduates of the seven week Facing Up course will be encouraged and prepared to co-facilitate the next seven-week Facing Up course!

The workshop consists of two three-hour classroom sessions each week and one three-hour special physical / learning activity each week. One popular course schedule is Mon, Wed and Fri. The Facilitator workshop is one week. The overall length of the workshop is seven weeks.

The Facing Up workshop is highly interactive, fun and skill oriented. The instructional layout is centered on adult learning principles, maximizing adult retention rates. The instructional components include power points, video clips, music, edu-dramas and scheduled physical activities

I would certify Peer Support Specialists as facilitators in a one-week facilitator certification workshop so they can then facilitate the seven-week Facing Up workshops. Based upon our agreement with ROC, their facilitator agreements will be tied to their given agency.

People being served (including staff) getting healthier and living longer Delivers a fundamental move toward integration of the whole health and wellness initiative in an expansive way Begins first important steps in workforce development, including potential career ladder step for Peer Support Specialists as facilitators. Gives providers a value added billing service and program which will result in retention of people served Provides certification training for peers. Increases occurrences of direct recovery service (billing) by the peer and family who are facilitators
