Art At Rewley Road Fire Station 2011/2012

Part One : Workshops with Adult Learners and Oxfordshire Adult Learning Yesterday (Tuesday 9/8/11) I enjoyed looking around all the safety rooms in the fire station and getting ideas for the mural. I enjoyed doing my own pictures of the river and Oxford Spires and colouring in the photocopied pictures with very bright colours it gave us ideas for one of the corners of the wall.. Mark

Day One To design ideas for the murals on all 4 walls in the Fire Station. Have a better understanding of the space and its function and developed knowledge of personal/community safety As a team be able to communicate design ideas through group discussion and drawing activities To introduce the project Dionne gave a presentation of her work and the project

Learners were taught different drawing techniques and ways of exploring design ideas All decisions were voted on by the group and Dionne put together the final designs

Day Two Painting the basic colours and mark out the paintings onto the wall. Learners learnt how To paint onto a wall from a planned design. Have a better understanding of the space and its function and developed knowledge of personal/community safety As a team be able to communicate design ideas through group discussion and drawing activities Making decisions as a team Paint from a design thinking about colours and application.

I like being here having fun with the paint. I like the firemen. Thank the firemen for letting us work in there…….. We like meeting them too. Toby

I have enjoyed everything about the project especially drawing my red kite and painting my buildings on the wall. Mark H

I enjoyed everything I have learnt how to draw birds and to paint I have loved it. Lena

Day Three Finishing painting the basic colours and make group decisions on pillars and extra details.

I feel very respected and treated well here. Paula and Dionne (our art expert) have been really friendly to me. Mark H

Good challenge, learning skills, experience, team effort. Toby

Day Four Working with bird drawings and adding into the existing painting. Then display all work produced for a private opening. I have enjoyed painting on the wall I liked meeting and chatting to nice people I also liked being in the fire station I liked learning about painting Richard

My greatest achievements on this workshop were that I can now paint quicker while still making pictures look wonderful.

I feel more respected and treated with dignity. The environment was really good and welcoming. The whole group was united and everyone was helping towards the project which was a really good thing to do. The group was well organised, hard working and most of the artists were relaxed and felt safe and secure, most of them felt at home. The aim of the artist was to achieve the project together. The project was very successful and everyone enjoyed it. The whole project was amazing, looking great, despite that it was done with different artists doing different things from different angles but in the end it worked out. There was nothing the group found difficult with the project, everything was easy going with people helping each other, sharing ideas, working together as a team it really made the project easier. The teachers of the project were very organised, well done everyone. If it was not for the hard working of the staff who organised the project everything would have been impossible, so we give then big credit for working hard. Thank you once more for all your efforts and hard working. Mark, Sarah and Sheila

We are very proud for what we have achieved as a team. This is wonderful and the idea was great and amazing. I am very proud of work I have done. Gaynor
