Solutions Cancer and Intensive Care Policy & Pulse Protection Series Heart Disease, Heart Attack, and Stroke Policy Underwritten by Washington National Insurance Company

Washington National Insurance Co. Our Strengths Currently serve 2 million supplemental health insurance policy owners and nearly 5 million customers across America. Protecting American families for more than 30 years. Already returned more than $250 million through premium- back feature. Never raised rates on an existing supplement policyholder.

According to the American Cancer Society (2004 facts): Cancer is affecting more people Men have a little less than 1-in-2 lifetime risk of developing cancer. Women have a little more than 1-in-3 lifetime risk. 3 out of 4 families will be affected by cancer. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children between ages 1 and 14. The relative contribution from the environment toward cancer risk is about 80-90%.

According to the American Heart Association (2003 facts): Heart Disease and Stroke are always in the news They are affecting more people… Heart attacks affected as many as 1.1 million Americans in Almost 700,000 Americans will experience a new or recurrent stroke each year. and playing no favorites Over one-third of all heart attacks occur in people under the age of 65. Strokes are a leading cause of serious disability; 53% of all stroke victims are women. Nearly two-thirds of people who had heart attacks in 2000 were men.

GOOD NEWS!! Cancer is treated by surgery, radiation, chemicals, hormones and immunotherapy. The 5-year relative survival rate of those diagnosed with cancer is 63%. 50%-70% of stroke survivors regain independence. One-third of the 1.1 million heart attack victims in 2000 made a complete recovery. 88% of heart attack survivors under the age of 65 can return to work.

However, Advanced treatments may be expensive, and the cost of travel and related expenses can be enormous. Your savings and your family’s financial independence might not survive your cancer and heart treatments! 66% of the total cost of cancer treatments and more than 40% of the total cost of heart treatments are non- medical in nature and consequently, may not be paid by major medical insurance.

Fighting Cancer and Heart/Stroke Can Be Very Costly Major medical insurance is designed to take care of the doctor and hospital bills, but it seldom pays for everything. Many times a hospital stay for cancer, heart disease, heart attack, or a stroke can have a significant impact on a family’s finances.

There are two basic costs associated with these illnesses: Medical Expenses—covered by medical insurance Non-Medical Expenses—out of pocket  Loss of Income  Living Expenses  Transportation & Lodging  Eating Out  Long Distance  Special Foods  Child Care  Insurance Shortfalls (deductibles, co-payments, benefit limitations)

Everyone’s financial puzzle will look different. But the Solutions Cancer & The Pulse Protection can help you fill many of the gaps in your major medical plan and help you solve the financial puzzle that cancer and heart disease, heart attack and stroke may cause.
