SPP-13: Drawing the Lists Sampling frame identical to 2006 and or fewer students = 25% of LEA total 76–3,000 students = 25 students More than 3,000 students = 5% of LEA Special notes: Only CIMS Cohort 1 LEAs sampled IEPs common to TOPS 2002, TOPS 2005, SPP , and SPP incorporated

SPP-13: Data Entry Do I need to do anything differently for phase 2 data entry (corrected non- compliance)? No. At the website, simply select the student and enter the corrected checklist data

SPP-13: Checklist Notes Item 2: strengths/preferences/interests Assume that these have been taken into account if needs, academic achievement, and functional performance are evident Assume that someone else has done this (utilize the rules of construction) Item 4: goals Academic goals can be transition goals Academic goals can align with the postsecondary vision Item 6: Annual time frame Be resourceful when verifying a prior IEP date

SPP-13: Missing Students What if a student has moved, dropped out, died, or is no longer in special education? If you are using the scan forms: oDraw a line through the form with a thick magic marker oWrite the reason why there is no IEP oMail the form to PSC If you are using the web entry option: oAnswer the question provided at the website What if the student is graduating? You may use the most recent IEP convened for a graduating student to complete the checklist

SPP-14: Drawing the Lists All exiting students who had an IEP using December 2007 SRSD (single record student database) exit data (“leavers”) Graduated Dropped out Aged out SRSD exit data includes a mailing address 6,037 eligible leavers in CIMS Cohort 1

SPP-14: Exit Interviews Goal for SPP-14 exit data entry: To provide additional contact information that will increase response rate Exit data entry closed April 1 2,351 entries 1,956 phone numbers 66 addresses

SPP-14: Calendar The following were mailed to all eligible students : MDE letter of introduction Paper copy of the survey Link to the Web version of the survey Addresses were telematched and combined with SPP-14 exit data received by April 1 Phone survey conducted concurrently Link to Web survey ed to 66 students

SPP-14: Follow-up Each ISD will receive a list of non- responders for targeted follow-up in June Use this list to gather any phone numbers you have for each student Complete a student contact record sheet for each student to help track your efforts (form will be included with the lists and available at the website) Contact the student and complete the survey Enter the survey results at the survey website:

SPP-14: Interviewer Tips Suggestions for conducting the interviews: Be courteous Tell them who you are and why you are calling Verify that you are talking to the correct student/family member Explain that their responses will be confidential Complete a contact record sheet for each student Speak slowly

SPP-14: Interviewer Tips Do not: Talk to other people during the interview Make comments about the responses oPositive feedback oNegative feedback oLaugh Use inappropriate language Push them to complete the interview – this is a voluntary survey
