Author’s Purpose The author’s purpose is the main reason for presenting a story or selection in a certain way. An author’s purpose does two things  Can be to inform to inform, explain, to entertain, or to persuade  Affects things in the story, such as the details, descriptions, story events, and dialogue An author can have more than on purpose for writing.
