NO COPY – 1 IFR – Fliegen nach Plan GPS-Longbriefing G. Breu

NO COPY – General Workload is a major concern in instrument flying: - If used properly, GPS can help us reduce our workload -If used unproperly, GPS can increase our workload and lead to serious trouble -You need to know, how to quickly edit a flightplan: -Delete -Insert -Add -Need to know how to change the approach -Be careful not to activate the approach prematurely -Know how to get back to your flight plan -Know wheter the final fix is part of the route or part of the approach! G. Breu2

NO COPY – PRE-FLIGHT-PHASE (1)  POWER UP GNS 430 (AVIONICS MASTER) –Note: AIRAC cycle is 28 days –CHECK AUX 3-page (SETUP1), whether WGS-84 is selected as map datum. Warning: Any map datum other than WGS-84 selected causes dangerous navigational errors !! –ON NAV 2-page (Map) push MENU key and check TRACK UP selected as map orientation. Note: This step provides that the map picture directly corresponds to the outside world. It is used in large AC equipped with an EFIS as navigational display G. Breu

NO COPY – PRE-FLIGHT-PHASE (2)  On NAV 2-page check data fields on and setup in the following order: –BRG = direction from present position to active waypoint –TRK = direction of movement relative to a ground position –DIS = great-circle distance from position to active waypoint –WPT = identifier of the active waypoint (may be a navaid) G. Breu

NO COPY – PRE-FLIGHT PHASE (3)  When do we put the route in the FPN? –If you are not sure what you are going to get, just put in the departure-route and the first few waypoints –If you are not sure what you are going to get, just put in the departure-route and the first few waypoints  When leveled off, put in the rest of the flight plan issued: „You don‘t always get what you have filed“  Need to understand loading the approach versus activating the approach! G. Breu5

NO COPY – IN-FLIGHT PHASE  Press Proc key to display the procedure page  Rotate the large right knob to highlight „Select Approach“ and press ENT  A window will appear listing the available transitions. Rotate the large right knob to highlight the desired transition waypoint and press ENT  A second window will appear listing the available transitions. „Vector“ option assumes you will receive vectors to the final approach course.  Rotate the large right knob to highlight LOAD? or ACTIVATE? and press ENT G. Breu

NO COPY – CHECK RAIM  On AUX 2-page (Utilities) select „RAIM PREDICTION“  Check current waypoint (e.g. RW25), date and arrival time.  Select „COMPUTE RAIM“  A yellow „INTEG“ annunciator at the bottom left of the display indicates that satellite coverage is insufficient to pass built-in RAIM tests.  NOTE: Revert to conventional navigation or divert and inform ATC !! G. Breu
