INDIAN BASKETBALL A Tradition of Excellence

SEMINOLE INDIAN BASKETBALL MISSION STATEMENT As we work toward being successful on the court, we will not lose sight of the important task we have in developing the character of our players. Basketball is the vehicle we use to help our players become better, more productive, and stronger young men. If our team is successful we will develop the following attributes in our players: · Self-Discipline · Work Ethic · Teamwork · Respect · Pride

Mission Statement We will watch for “teachable moments” with our players. Use our time with our players to help them learn “life lessons” along with basketball skills. We recognize and respect that we will spend almost as much time with these young men as their parents will. We believe it is vital for us to be a positive role model while helping them to learn the importance and responsibility that comes with being part of a team. We will remember: 1. Our success is not measured in “wins and losses” but in the quality of individuals our program produces. 2. Accountability to everyone within our program to be dedicated to one another on and off the court. 3. Our students will always remember what they see, more than what they hear. Our example is important.

INDIAN COACHING STAFF Freshmen Coach – Joe Massey JV Coach – Steven Kinner Assistant Varsity – Mitch Shain Head Varsity – David Williams CHAIN of COMMAND Coach Head Coach Athletic Director Principal

TRY-OUTS Playing basketball is a privilege and not a right! If your son is in the Off-Season Basketball Period, then he has made it past the first round of cuts. The second round of cuts will happen after football is over. I will let you know after the last play-off game for football. JUST BECAUSE YOUR SON IS IN THE BASKETBALL PERIOD DOES NOT MEAN HE IS ON A TEAM!!!! We will place players on teams based on ABILITY, not based on classification. We will put the best players on Varsity, then JV, then of course Freshmen. Coach has the final decision.

EARNING EQUIPMENT All Players must earn their equipment, therefore, they must go through certain drills, runs, and initiations in order to get their gear. Please have kids bring their own workout clothes and shoes during the try-out period after football is over. Be prepared to start working out the day after the last football game!!!!!!

TEAM RULES We will wear ties on game days. We will travel to and from the games together. We will support the teams that are playing and sit together as a team. We will not eat junk food before a game. We will only listen to headphones in the bus or locker room. We will take care of our locker room and our gear. We will keep our focus on the court and not in the stands. We will treat coaches, officials, scorekeepers, fans, and teammates with respect at all times. (yes sir…etc) We will be positive and only yell positive comments. We will not show negative emotion on the court or in the locker room. We will wear our uniforms in the same fashion as our team. We will communicate with our coaches and players. (missed practice, injury, etc.) We will accept any and all discipline measures as prescribed by our coaches.
