GRADE 12 YEAR PLUG-IN….CHECKIN …..BEGIN

HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIRMENTS – REGULAR ACADEMIC PROGRAM 5 Courses at the grade 12 level – 600 or language arts (one of which may be French), one English course from each level (400,500, and 600) 2 math courses 2 science courses 2 social studies courses All students are expected to take at least one Phys Ed course and additional courses related to career exploration.

French Immersion Certificate A French Certificate is obtained by completing 6 credits in French Immersion. It is expected that students will have registered in two courses in each calendar year.

Courses to Graduate from high school and Courses for University/College may be different – for example UPEI Arts – 70 % Minimum cumulative Average in: English 621, One 621 Language or social studies, Three 621 or 611 courses from any area. Science – 70% Minimum cumulative average in: English 621, Math 621 (A or B) or Math 611 (621B 611 are recommended) Two 621 science courses (Chemistry at 521 or 621 is required) One 621 course from any area. Nursing – 70% Minimum cumulative and at least 65% in each of the following: English 621, Math 621 A or B or Math 611, Chemistry 621, Biology 621, one ofther 621 from any area. Business – 70% minimum cumulative average in: English 621, Math 621 A or B or Math 611 (Math B and 611 are preferred), Two 621 courses from Social Studies, Sciences, or Languages, One 621 from any other area.

MOST IMPORTANTLY……. Each University and College have specific requirements that differ depending on program choice and/or university/college. It is essential that your child, with your support, look into the specific requirements now. You don’t have to decide now but you have to know the requirements.

Marks…. It is very important that your child work to their potential. Programs are very competitive and marks matter.

Scholarships and Bursaries Never to early to start looking and being prepared for scholarships and bursaries. Places to look: Colonel Gray Website under the student services tab, you will find a bursary booklet. In Student Services, on our bulletin board, updated information is always available. Students need to come in regularly and check out potential awards. Parents NEED to read the Colonel Gray Column in Monday’s Guardian as there will always be updated bursary information. Each University/College has available awards pertaining to their school/program. Students should apply for any and everything – have a portfolio organized so they can re-use information necessary for these awards.

Transcripts…. Students must request transcripts be sent to desired location – $1.00 cost per transcript. Must be sent after first semester and again after second semes ter.

COMMUNICATE There will be lots of questions your son/daughter or you yourself may have. Please don’t hesitate to contact someone in student services early with any questions you may have. On the Wiki, there will be a link under Student Services. There will be information posted here – ie important deadlines, university/college visits, etc. Please check this frequently.
