WELCOME TO BUSINESS ADVANCED 1

GRADING CRITERIA BUSINESS ADVANCED Mid-Term exam 20% Oral participation 30% Final exam 20% Oral participation 30% ___________________ GLOBAL GRADE Your participation in class will be extremely vital as the lessons are founded in your talking EXAM

COMMUNICATION Within companies, communication falls into two areas. There is the communication of information and technical knowledge needed to do the job at hand. Here, paper-based communication is being replaced by the company intranet, with internal websites only accessible by employees. Some very large companies are appointing knowledge officers to exploit the information in a company to the full and communicate it effectively to those who needed (However, in these times there are always information hoarders who keep information for themselves).

DISCUSSION What makes a good communicator? Any other factors you can think of? What forms of written and spoken communication do you use most? What problems can people have with them and how can they be prevented? Fluency in the language An extensive vocabulary Being a good listener Physical appearance A sense of humor Grammatical accuracy Not being afraid of making mistakes An awareness in body language

VOCABULARY WORD MEANING Succinct Hesitant Rambling Articulate Coherent Persuasive Extrovert Responsive Clear and easy to understand Concise Good at influencing people Reluctant to speak Outgoing Talking in a confused way Reacting in a positive way Able to express ideas well P. 7

Why is that? Why is sometimes so difficult to convey a message ? Do you know what is the communication cycle? P. 9 Many times are severe failures in communication

THE COMMUNICATION CYCLE SENDER Formulates the message ENCODE How to transmit the message SEND How you are passing the message to others RECEIVER Who is getting the message DECODE To understand & evaluate the message FEEDBACK Returning the message

FAILURES IN COMMUNICATION I heard on the grapevine that the boss will be fired! To pass the latest information, to gossip Lets get straight to the point… we have to redesign the production line! To tell the most important

To put you in a nutshell, the contract has to be remade. To tell the issue quickly Let me put you in the picture, our sales have dropped dramatically! To tell the latest news. I think I got the wrong end of the stick, you said 1000 units or 10, thousand Misunderstood the information People, we have to be on the same wavelength to understand the procedures! To share the same or similar opinions

I cant make head or tail of this diagram! Confused Please, youre talking at cross purposes here! The information is being misunderstood. Hes beating about the bushes again to say something so simple! To delay at telling things Im sorry I think we got our wires crossed, do you want to talk to the supervisor or the manager? To confuse the information listening
