The AH Question Paper is 40% of the exam Questions 7 and 8 are worth a total of 10 marks and they are open ended - i.e. YOU supply the answers. Each bit of the answer is worth only 1/2 a mark. So you must write A LOT! You must listen to music and ….identify distinctive features and use appropriate concepts to describe what you hear.

Here are some answers which EVERY piece of music has: A key: I.e. tonality Major/Minor/Chromatic - does it change? Sequence - every piece has a sequence - where? A Time signature: 3 beats in the bar? 4? 5? A tempo - allegro, andante, presto, largo, etc. Tempo change - slow down (Rall) speed up (Accel)

Rhythm effects - dotted rhythms, Scotch snap, Anacrusis, irregular phrase lengths, triplets, augmentation, diminution, syncopation, repetition, ornaments Cadence: Perfect: finished. Imperfect - half way through. Plagal: finished in Church (Amen) Interupted: what it says on the tin! Form: AB Binary, ABA Ternary, Round, Canon, Ground bass, Ostinato/Riff, Counter melody,

Instruments and/or voices used: Be very specific e.g. Bass guitar, acoustic guitar, solo violin, Tenor voice, solo violin, muted trumpet Dont be afraid to write the obvious/easy: Piano, drum kit, drum fill, arpeggio
