Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis TOPIC MINUTES Introduction – 1 Vision and Mission – 1 Internal Assessment – 2 External Assessment – 2 SWOT Matrix – 2 BCG Matrix – 1 Recommendations – 2 EPS-EBIT Analysis – 1 Projected financial statements – 2 Conclusion – 1   Total 15

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis Introduction – 1 Minute Give your name and business major   Give overview of your company in terms of what they are doing versus a glimpse of what you recommend they do If showing or wearing products of your company, mention relevance, to capture interest.

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis Vision and Mission – 1 Minute Tell how/why you are changing the firm’s vision/mission, if any, in light of your recommendations.   Reveal in your proposed mission your firm’s distinctive competence or competitive advantage (self concept), versus rival firms.

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis Internal Assessment – 2 Minutes   Among your 20 strengths/weaknesses, highlight ones that lead most directly to your recommendations. Your internal factors should be divisional, quantitative, and actionable to the extent possible. Avoid vagueness, such as “revenues are increasing.”

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis External Assessment – 2 Minutes Among your 20 opportunities/threats, highlight ones that lead most directly to your recommendations.   Your external factors should be divisional, quantitative, and actionable to the extent possible. Avoid vagueness, such as “the economy is bad.”

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis SWOT Matrix – 2 Minutes Show three alternative strategies per strategy quadrant in the SWOT = 12 total. Highlight ones that make it to your recommendations page.   Couch alternative strategies quantitatively; avoid vagueness such as “Expand into Africa.” Instead, be specific, such as “ Build 2 manufacturing plants in Mexico.”

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis BCG Matrix – 1 Minute Show a BCG by product, and second BCG (or IE Matrix) by region, if possible. Focus on implications of your matrices as per the upcoming recommendations.   Perhaps the most important strategic decision facing firms annually is allocation of resources across divisions/segments, so be divisional throughout presentation.

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis Recommendations – 2 Minutes Show 8 to 10 recommendations with associated costs or savings; add up the costs to obtain a total $ capital needed for next 3 years.   Highlight several recommendations as per reasoning and associated costs.

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis EPS-EBIT Analysis – 1 Minute   Present your EPS-EBIT analysis and financing decision. Focus on implications of your analysis, rather than the numbers.

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis Projected financial statements – 2 Minutes Begin with the income statement. Relate changes in income statement to your recommendations, rather than to historical percentage changes. Show how you transferred net earnings to the balance sheet retained earnings row. Highlight several items on the balance sheet, such as capital surplus, long-term debt, and property/plant/equipment – as per changes expected given your recommendations.

Guidelines For Presenting a 15 Minute Strategic Management Case Analysis Conclusion – 1 Minute Compare/contrast your recommendations versus the company’s plans, and/or with a rival company’s plans. Show several projected financial ratios to reveal the firm’s improving financial position. Genuinely seek questions from the audience, so keep your PPoint active on the screen.
