TB Surveillance in POC  Live animal testing (accredited herds and for movement purposes)  Slaughter surveillance (ranches)

TB Testing in MI   64 private practitioner veterinarians in the state of Michigan have been trained and are willing to conduct TB tests in cervids.   State or Federal Veterinarians conduct the follow up testing on suspect animals.

Types of Tests Available 10 Skin test Skin test Blood test (became available in Feb 2013) Blood test (became available in Feb 2013) Skin Testing Requires chemical immobilization or handling facility. Inject & read 3 days apart.

TB Accredited Herds To achieve TB accreditation:   2 whole herd tests (all animals over 12 months of age) within 9-15 months.   Then whole herd tests are required every 36 months.

Movement Testing Requirements   Interstate movement:   Accredited status makes movement easier.   Intrastate movement:   Variety of TB testing rules apply for movement.

TB Testing in MI Heads submitted for CWD testing checked for signs of TB   Since January 2007, there have been 9,219 heads/samples checked for TB.   Of the 9,219 heads/samples checked for TB, 3,182 were checked since January 2010.

TB positive Cervid Facilities in Michigan   There are currently two TB positive cervid facilities in the state of Michigan. Both facilities are located in Montmorency County.   These facilities were designated as TB positive in December 2008, and February 2009.
