There are four Auxiliary AN AORs within First Northern ANT Portland, ME Divisions 1 and 2. ANT Boston, MA Divisions 3, 4, 5, 9 and 12. ANT Woods Hole, MA Division 6 and 11. ANT Bristol, RI Divisions 7, 8, and 10.

There are four Auxiliary ADSO-ANs in First Northern ADSO -AN ANT Portland, ME Tom Raynor ADSO-AN ANT Boston, MA Jeff James ADSO-AN ANT Woods Hole, MA Robert H. Nolan ADSO-AN ANT Bristol, RI Robert Pardi

Scope of our Job 3,000 – Federal Aids (ATONs) 1,700 – Private Aids (PATONs) 311 – Bridges There are many NOAA charts to Adopt. There are many SCF – Small Craft Facility sites to report.

2007 AN Goals and objectives

1. AN GOAL AND Objective Encourage all Operational Members to include the verification of Aids to Navigation ( ATON s and PATON s) and the checking of Bridges on every patrol that they conduct during the year.

2. AN GOAL AND Objective Persuade ATON Team members to report their AN activity correctly and in a timely manner to the SO- IS using the ANSC 7030 AUXDATA Activity Report – Mission form during the year.

3. AN GOAL AND Objective Support the use of the latest Bridge Database Reporting System that allows members, using their home PCs, to print out Bridge Safety Check / Survey Reports and to report their observations via the Internet to the DCO-AN.

3. AN GOAL AND Objective The plan is to check all of the Class 1, 2, and 3 bridges throughout the year in each Division. Dont waste your time submitting reports on any Class 4 bridges. Complete checks on the bridges that have never been checked so we can get them classified.

4. AN GOAL AND Objective Assist the C.G. ANTs and the District AN Staff with the implementation of the new Web-Based PATON System and the verification of the Private Aids in your Division.

5. AN GOAL AND Objective Publish the Aids to Navigation Team Newsletter every two months during the year to keep members informed of on-going ATON, PATON, BAP, CU, and SCF program activities and to encourage members to participate in these programs. FSO-AN s are encouraged to forward this publication to their Flotilla members.

6. AN GOAL AND Objective Prepare monthly reports. A copy of the DSO-AN monthly report is sent to each AN Staff Officer, so they can include the information in their monthly report to their Flotilla membership and Division Staffs.

7. AN GOAL AND Objective Expand the ADOPT-A-CHART program at the Flotilla level and get more members interested in the NOAA Chart Updating and SCF- Small Craft Facility programs.

DEVELOP A PLAN OF ACTION Publish your Goals and Objectives. Meet with your customer – the CG ANT. Establish the CG ANTs needs for your AOR. List the resources your will need to accomplish your plan.

ATON – Federal Aids The members of the crew of every OPFAC should be checking every ATON, PATON, and Bridge that they pass for discrepancies while on patrol. Attend the annual Operations Workshop and make your case. Start making an list of potential volunteers for future communications.

PATONs – PRIVATE AIDS Identify the AV – Aid Verifier qualified personnel in your AOR. AVs must be approved by your CG ANT and your ADSO-AN to be active in this program. Need a access code to get on the Web- Based PATON System.

BAP – bridge administration program Checks can be performed all year. Self-study training available on the Internet. You can print forms and transmit your reports via the Internet. Encourage operational members to check bridges while underway.

Chart updating program Can be performed all year. Can self train on the Internet. Mail your reports by Govt. mail. The crew on every OPFAC should be checking the shoreline against their nautical chart while underway for charted discrepancies.

Adopt-a-chart program Each Flotilla may adopt a chart or part of a chart. Forms are available on the Internet. NOAA provides free charts for this purpose. Self training PowerPoint presentations are available on the Internet.

SCF program Self training PowerPoint presentations are available on the Internet. Annual SCF checks are desired. Specific restrictions limit the reporting of a facility. Others can be reported as Coast Pilot updates.

Get an/cu activity into auxdata. Patrols are reported via POMS. Credit for time underway is received on AUXDATA. Individual AN Activity must be reported with a ANSC 7030 Activity Report – Mission to your SO-IS. Credit for mission activity is received on AUXDATA. All AN annual awards are based on this mission activity reported to AUXDATA. You can receive credit for all of your AN/CU activity on AUXDATA.

Report on your progress Keep your Flotilla and Division informed of your AN/CU programs progress. Contribute to the Aid to Navigation Teams Newsletter about your program. Pass on the information received from the District Staff to your members. Keep waving the flag!
