An Environmental Balance

The Four Spheres of the Earth Atmosphere – blanket of gases surrounding the earth Lithosphere – earth’s hard outer shell (the land) Hydrosphere – all the water in oceans, lakes, rivers, and glaciers Biosphere – all living things and the environment where they live

AIR POLLUTION LEADS TO… GLOBAL WARMING OZONE DEPLETION ACID RAIN (WHEN CHEMICALS IN THE AIR COMBINE WITH RAIN)

Things people do that are not good for the environment Deforestation – cutting trees down and not replanting them “Experts estimates that we are losing 137 plant, animal and insect species every single day due to rainforest deforestation. That equates to 50,000 species a year. “ (rain-tree.com)

2. Irrigation Farmers use irrigation to bring water to their plants. (As much as 70% of all water used on earth is for farming.) Many irrigation practices are wasteful.

3. Pesticides These chemicals are used by farmers to kill insects that destroy crops.

What can we do??? 1. Conservation – the careful use of resources so that they are not wasted
