Returning to Study Yr 11 & 12 at CSHS QUALIFICATIONS AT THE END OF YEAR 12, depending on your course of study and successful completion… All Year 12 students… Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) Senior Statement – Subject exit results, at the end of Year 12. OP-eligible students… Tertiary Entrance Statement – OP & FPs. Students studying VET subjects… Nationally accredited certificates – Attained through VET subjects. Quick explanation of FPs

A student will obtain a QCE if they achieve… 20 credit points Exit Year 12 with a sound achievement or better in 5 or more subjects over 4 semesters. 3 of these subjects must be studied for 4 semesters. Authority, authority-registered and certificate subjects (Certificate II) are worth 4 points each. Some certificate subjects are worth less than 4 points (Certificate I) and some certificate subjects are worth more than 4 points (Certificate III). School-based traineeships/apprenticeships also contribute to QCE points. AND Literacy and numeracy Required to achieve a “C” in English/English Communication for literacy and “C” in Prevocational Maths/Maths A/Maths B/Maths C in at least 1 semester. OR Achieve a “C” on the QCS test.

Senior Statement This statement is a record of your subject results, upon exiting Year 12.

Tertiary Entrance Statement Overall Position (OP) – best option for students who want direct entry to University. OP scores range from 1 – 25 (1 being the highest and 25 lowest). Compare overall student achievement throughout Queensland. To be OP eligible, students must study a minimum of 5 Authority subjects; with at least 3 of these studied over 4 semesters. Students must also sit the QCS (Qld Core Skills) Test to be OP eligible. Field Positions (FP) FPs are additional rank orders that supplement an OP. FPs are used by tertiary institutions to help differentiate between students with the same OP. FPs are reported in 10 bands, from one (the highest) to 10 (the lowest).

Marine and Aquatic Practices and Pre-requisites for Marine and Aquatic Practices and Certificate II in Sport and Recreation Students must have the ability and preparedness to go swimming and/or snorkelling.

Additional Subject Requirements for Year 11 & 12 A number of subjects require students to attend camps, as it is an essential element contributing towards assessment.

STRUCTURED WORKPLACE LEARNING IS COMPULSORY FOR WORKPLACE PRACTICES, HOSPITALITY, D2C & OPTIONAL FOR CONSTRUCTION 5 weeks of work placement is allocated, during specified times on the school calendar across Year 11 & 12 to enable students to meet SWL– 2 different workplace sites. Further requirements for D2C. 120 hours of vocational placements are also required for Certificate III in Children’s Services.

School-based Traineeship/ Apprenticeship Also known as SATs with Mrs Kerr

What is a SAT? SATs allow high school students to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification while completing their secondary school, as well as studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

Who is eligible? Students in Year 10/11/12 are eligible to become a school-based apprentice or trainee. Students who have indicated on their SET Plan that they are interested in a SAT.

How do SATs work? * Students attend the workplace one day a week. * Students are paid. * 50 days a year required. * Additional training – theory. Students attend the workplace one day a week. Students are paid whilst in productive work for the employer. Must complete 50 work days in a twelve month period. Not enough school Wednesdays, so students make up the extra days on school holidays. Students are permitted to work more that 50 days.

Getting started Talk to your family. Speak to employers. Caboolture SHS will assist with essential paperwork for a SAT once YOU find an employer Talk to your family – they are the best source of finding an employer that may be interested in taking you on as a SAT. Caboolture SHS is NOT an employment agency, but from time to time employers will contact the school to see if any students are interested in applying for SATs they may have. In this case, these positions are advertised on the Student Notices, and on a whiteboard outside my Office in Administration Block.

HOW DO I GET SIGNED AS AN APPRENTICE/ TRAINEE? * Employer * Trainee & Parent * Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) * School- Mrs Kerr * Supervising Registered Training Organization (SRTO) * Department of Education, Training & Employment (DETE) Once a decision has been made to be signed as a SAT, the process takes about an hour. An Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) is responsible for completing the legal paperwork and submitting it to the Government. Present at the signup will be, the Employer, the Trainee, Parent/Guardian of Trainee (if trainee under 18), a representative of an ACC and a school representative. Employer selects a Registered Training Organization who is paid by the government to delivery the ‘off-the-job’ training.

You bring information to Mrs Kerr. Mrs Kerr organises the paperwork. The SAT must be approved by the Principal and formal papers must be signed by the Principal.
