CSR – more than an individual issue Dr Jennifer Bartlett Queensland University of Technology

CSR – a series of paradoxes Individuals say they are concerned about CSR but few make purchasing decisions based on CSR (Ingenhoff, 2010) Organisations say they are concerned about CSR – but not all integrate it into their business (Zahradka, 2010) Society leaders say they are concerned about CSR but legislation is scarce

Legitimacy pressure on organisations Pressure from stakeholders Organisation Expectations from government

What is the status quo for organisations? Does the emphasis on CSR reporting reflect on business integration of sustainability matters into the business?

Accessibility of CSR information in Fortune 500 companies 2010 (Zahradka, 2010)

Corporations continue to struggle It remains a challenge for organisations to meet multiple demands to be responsible AND maintain a business focus Organisations continue to face the Catch 22 of communicating about CSR
