THE MAINSTREAM EDUCATION SYSTEM

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING Based on the dual training principle: Alternation between school-based education and workplace training Qualifies students for labour market entry as skilled workers Duration: 2 to 5 years – the most typical being 3.5 to 4 years Different categories: Technical, Business, Social and Health Care, Agricultural, Maritime oriented programmes etc.

Dual Education Basic Course (1+2) Main CoursePractical training School Practical training School Practical training School Examination

What creates growth and development in DK? Paradigm shift: Production is necessary for growth DK must live both knowledge and production Need skilled workers to transform knowledge to products and services 10’erne Dominating paradigm: DK to live on knowledge Other countries must take care of production 00’erne Politicians: The production community is dead 2001

The basic problems Too many unskilled workers Lack of skilled workers (well-qualified) In 2013 selects only 19% VET directly from elementary school Dropout, re-runs and double education is expensive Lack of employees with higher education Need for more apprenticeships

What should be addressed with the reform The choice must be made more manageable and less ultimate The choice must be perceived as the future Young people need guides to professional success and apprenticeship The creation of rational ways for adults The elementary school reform is a success factor

4 clear policy objectives 1.More students need to choose a vocational training directly after the 9th or 10th grade 2.More must complete a VET 3.Vocational training must challenge all students to become as skillful, they can 4.Confidence and well-being at vocational schools must be strengthened

Companies provide shorter training periods, called Short Agreements (SA) or "pieces", where education targets agreed with the company. Remaining practical training conducted at the practical training Centers (PC) The aim is to complete the program with a remaining agreement at the a company. (RA) SA PC SARA
