 Edward meets a hermit who thinks himself an archangel. He believes Edward is king, but has forsaken the crown for a life of prayer. After learning Henry VIII is dead, the mad hermit ties up the sleeping Edward, intending to kill him because Henry VIII did not make the hermit pope.

 Look at the changes Henry VIII made in the relationship between the throne and the church during his reign. Why would the hermit be angry at the king?  Even though Henry was not as monk or anything of the sort, he still made himself the Pope, just In order to marry. For a religious man, this is a scandal of the church and should not happen.

 What is Edward’s attitude towards the hermit’s tale?

 A feeling of humiliation or shame, as through some injury to one's pride or self-respect.

 A chief or principal angel, in medieval angelology one of the nine orders of celestial attendants on god.  “I am a Archangel!” (Page 89)

 Anticipation of adversity or misfortune; suspicion or fear of future trouble or evil.  “His Apprehensions were heightened, and they showed plainly in his face.

 Poisionous  “Here he bagan to mumble again, and beat his forehead in futile rage with his fist, now and then articualting a venemous curse…“ (Page 90)

 A small, very humble dwelling house; a wretched hut.  “He Glided about his Hovel, gathering a rag here, a thong there…“ (Page 92)
