FAUNA OF ACANTHOCEPHALA FROM FRESHWATER FISH IN ERZURUM Burçak Aslan, Yahya Tepe, Mehmet Cemal Oğuz Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Ataturk University Erzurum, Turkey

 Some freshwater fish can be infected with parasites.  Parasites reduce nutritional value of fish and prevent their reproduction, growth and feeding.  The distribution and presence of parasites in water are very important knowledge in economy.  In this study, acanthocephalans of freshwater fish caught from Erzurum were investigated.  The aim of the study was determined the role of acanthocephalans in this system.

The fish of Karasu River Porsuk (Aras) River Tortum Lake Çıldır Lake Kuzgun Dam Lake were examined in this study. During the study a total of 170 fish of 13 species were investigated for the presence of acanthocephalans.

%Prevalence=Number of infected fish / Number of total fish Mean intensity= Number of total parasite / Number of infected fish Mean abundance= Number of total parasite / Number of total fish Table 1. The formulas of some parasitological parameters of the parasites

Acanthocephalan fauna of the fresh water fish from Erzurum province is included 4 species. Acanthocephalus salmonis Pomphorhynchus spindletruncatus Neoechinorhynchus sp. Neoechinorhynchus zabensis.

a b c d a.Pomphorhynchus spindletruncatus b.Neoechinorhynchus zabensis c.Acanthocephalus salmonis d.Neoechinorhynchus sp.

Conclusion;  Acanthocephalus salmonis was observed in Salmo trutta  Neoechinorhynchus zabensis in Capoeta trutta  Pomphorhynchus spindletruncatus in the other 9 fish species.  These acanthocephalan species are first records for the parasite fauna of Turkey.
