Southern Regional Education Board Tech Centers of the Future  What is the future of the shared time centers?  Define a futuristic shared time centers.  What are some strategies for working with sending schools?  How should shared time centers be organized?

Southern Regional Education Board TCTW Mission Career and technical centers are preparing students for employment in a broad career field as well as further study

Southern Regional Education Board TCTW Goals  Increase to 85 percent the percentages of students who meet career and college- readiness goals in reading, mathematics and science.  Increase the percentages of career tech students who perform at the Proficient level to at least 50 percent in reading, mathematics and science.  Increase the percentages of career tech center graduates who complete a CT concentration and enter employment within the field for which they were prepared and who enter postsecondary studies.

Southern Regional Education Board TCTW Goals  Increase to 95 percent the percentages of high school students who enter the technology center in grade 11 and graduate on time.  Advance policies and leadership initiatives that sustain a continuous school improvement effort.  Work with middle schools to use assessments to guide students in creating programs of study that prepare students for high school and career tech center.

Southern Regional Education Board TCTW Goals  Increase annually the percentage of students leaving the career technology center with postsecondary credit or having met standards for postsecondary studies so they avoid remedial courses.  Work with the high schools to annually increase the percentage of students entering career tech centers prepared to earn college credit based on test scores.  Increase annually the percentage of graduates that pass an approved employers exam. (National licensure, state exam/credential, etc., such as ASE)

Southern Regional Education Board TCTW Goals 2008 TCTW Teacher Survey Results  27% strongly agree the goals and priorities for their school are clear  10% strongly agree that the surrounding community actively supports their school’s instructional goals  27% strongly agree the school maintains a demanding yet supportive environment that pushes students to do their best  52% stated the principal stresses that all students be taught to the same high standards monthly  39% strongly agree they use data to continuously evaluate the school’s academic and technical programs activities

Southern Regional Education Board TCTW Goals 2008 TCTW Teacher Survey Results (Continued)  31% meet as a member of academic and career/tech teachers to plan joint instructional activities and to take collective responsibility for student learning at least monthly  21% meet with a group of teachers to examine students’ work to determine if it meets state or national standards in their content area at least monthly  39% strongly agree they are encouraged to revise lesson plans to teach more rigorous content to all students

Southern Regional Education Board TCTW Goals 2008 TCTW Teacher Survey Results (Continued) Academic teachers reported:  16% of math teachers require students to complete a joint assignment for mathematics and career tech teachers and receive a grade in both classes at least once a semester  27% of science teachers reported they require students to complete a joint assignment for science and career tech teachers and receive a grade in both classes at least once a semester  17% of English/language arts teachers require students to complete a joint writing assignment for English class and another class and receive a grade in both classes at least once a semester

Southern Regional Education Board TCTW Goals 2008 TCTW Teacher Survey Results (Continued) Career tech teachers reported…  43% require students to read and interpret technical books and manuals in carrying out assignments at least weekly  19% require students to write and prepare business or technical documents and service reports at least weekly  20% hold students to academic content standards in writing assignments set by the English/language arts department at least weekly  18% require students to complete a joint mathematics and career tech teachers and receive a grade in both classes at least once a semester  14% require students to complete a joint science project for science and career tech teachers and receive a grade in both classes at least once a semester
