Volunteer Role Profile Volunteer Dietetic Support Worker People living with HIV in London are referred to The Food Chain for nutritional support and advice. Our services are designed to help people get well, stay well and lead independent lives. We require volunteers with nutritional knowledge and skills to support our service users so they achieve their outcomes during their Food Chain journey. You will work as part of a team including the Services Co-ordinators, our HIV Specialist Community Dietitian and our Volunteer Community Dietitians (VCD’s). What does the role involve? Regularly communicating with service users to provide basic nutritional advice in accordance with an agreed personalised nutritional care plan with agreed outcomes and goals under the supervision of the HIV Specialist Community Dietitian and VCD. You will build a relationship with service users, conducting weekly telephone reviews, identifying their likes and dislikes, ordering groceries, arranging meals, and encouraging attendance at Eating Positively, cookery and nutrition classes, and/or Eating Together communal eating sessions. You will use Diet Plan 6 to carry out nutritional analysis with service users and also carry out a quality of life assessment. As part of the role you will be required to assist with general administration tasks. You will be allocated your own set of service users to communicate with. You will be supervised and managed by a qualified Dietitian at all times. How often do I need to volunteer? How much time do I need to give? Minimum one fixed day a week at The Food Chain office. We are looking for a minimum 3 month commitment from volunteers to ensure effective relationship building and to ensure service user’s personalised nutrition care plans are delivered on time. Multiple days may be available upon request. What training and support will I get? Office volunteer induction. HIV awareness training and HIV food and nutrition training Specialist software training including Salesforce CRM and nutritional analysis software (Dietplan6) The on-line grocery ordering system Structured supervision and support from the HIV Specialist Community Dietitian and VCD’s NB: It is important that you communicate your own training needs to the HIV Specialist Community Dietitian. Expenses: Lunch and travel expenses incurred can be reimbursed in line with the Finance Policy. What skills do I need to be a really good Volunteer Dietetic Support Worker? NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent Knowledge in the field of food and nutrition would be desirable. Excellent written and verbal English language skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Patient and persistent and have excellent inter-personal skills. Excellent time management skills. Computer literate and proficient with Word, Excel, Power Point and the web. A friendly and confident telephone manner, with excellent listening skills An understanding of data protection and confidentiality. Accurate record keeping skills You must be able to work within your scope of practice at all times and communicate any issues or concerns directly to the qualified Dietitian or member of staff.
