 SCIENCE PROJECT SCHEDULE  September 10 Choose a project that you find interesting and can be can be tested in an experiment. Research your topic using books, magazines, and Internet. Get approval from teacher before writing your problem/hypothesis.  September 17 Write your problem and hypothesis stating how you would do the experiment to try out your idea. (your answer as to how you can test it)  September 24 Experimental Procedures are due (step-by-step procedure of your project and the safety procedures you used to protect you and your family.)  September 28 First date for SRC meetings for special approval for projects involving humans, vertebrates, hazardous biological agents or chemicals. SRC committee meets every other week until December.  October 1 Five bibliographies are due (check poster for the required bibliography that MUST be included in your list of 5 or more bibliographies). Once the experimental procedures and bibliographies are approved by the teacher then you may use the web site to type your procedures and print out forms and Research Attachment (check with teacher for sample of a research attachment) for your personal files.

 October 5 Science project paperwork due, Forms 1, 1A, 1B and your own explanation of what you are doing in the Research Attachment (use web site to type and print out forms and attachment for your own folder)  October 25 Science Project Progress Report is due to the teacher. A 1-page written report to summarize what you have done so far on your project.  November 5-16 Sale of science project backboard kits—an optional purchase.  December 3 Science Project Research Paper due –rough draft only. These typed papers will be edited and returned before the Winter Break.  December 5-16 Sign-up with your teacher for a day to present science projects.  January 2-11 Science Project oral presentations. Must have board, research paper, and journal. (Extra credit will be given for oral presentations before Winter Break)  January 15-17Best of the science projects go to School Science Fair. Projects with the most points from the judges for best experimental project will go to the Northeast Florida Science and Engineering Regional Fair.

Materials ____has a complete list of all the materials used in the experiment Experimental Procedure ____listed the steps in doing the experiment in a logical order ____can the reader follow the procedures and duplicate the experiment too?

Research ____has a research page to give background information about the project or materials or subject matter used in the project ____research page is at least one page ____each paragraph describes one detail of the project ____did the reader understand the research? ____did not use personal pronouns such as “I” or “me” Data ____has the data in form of a table ____and has the data in form of a graph ____graph has all the parts (title, subtitle, numbers are labeled) Conclusion ____restates the problem and hypothesis ____explains whether their original hypothesis was correct or incorrect ____explains why they were correct or incorrect and uses the data to support their argument Bibliography page (Works Cited page) ____has no less than 5 entries and correctly written (including required one)

 January 15 Deadline to turn in the paperwork for the best experimental projects in your classes. The paperwork should be turned in to Mrs. Poe before 4:30 today.  January 19 Project numbers and places in the media center will be assigned and sent to the students’ teachers in the morning. (Teachers, please put the project number on the back of the project boards.) All school fair projects must be sent to the media center during 7th period (3:15-4:00).  January 20 Judging of science projects will be done from 8:15-7:00.  January 21 Results of the school science fair will be announced during the morning announcements. Public viewing of the projects will be held from 9:30- 3:30. All projects are to be removed from the media center by 4:15.  January 21 A meeting of Regional Science Fair entrants will be held at 3:30 PM in Mrs. Poe’s room for assistance in getting their Regional entry paperwork done on the Internet.  January 27 All Regional paperwork for each school entrant must be turned in by 7:00 to the regional fair director by Mrs. Poe.

At the bottom of the letter is a confirmation of child’s participation by the student and parent signed by the parent by the deadline. Any student not going can be replaced by the students on the waiting list.  January 27 All Regional paperwork for each school entrant must be turned in by 7:00 to the regional fair director by Mrs. Poe.
