The Queen’s Crown Design 1

 This design is inspired by the shape of a crown.  It has an arc shape which gives it a unique design.  The adjacent building design is an inspiration from a lighthouse. This makes it outstanding. Advantages: The structure has a unique design.  The design wasn’t chosen because ; Design of the trusses was critical due to the large clear span. The building was too high, construction would be difficult. The adjacent building is far from main structure and the span of the bridge from the adjacent building to the crow’s nest was too long. High columns that are at a risk of buckling Massive roof design Generally the construction of this structure would not only be difficult but also expensive.

 This design concept is a visualization of the ‘Eclipse’. The curved semi-circular shape of the previous design is maintained. Unlike the previous design, this elliptical design saves more vertical space and this eases the process of construction as well as reduction in the cost. Reasons for choosing this design: Simpler design which makes construction easier; this also reduces the cost of construction. This structure can easily be dissembled and the materials recycled.

1. Input Design in AutoCAD 2. Use Euro-Code to calculate loading 3. Use IDS to calculate and analyse trusses 4. Using GSA for column analysis

For the future

Both structures use solar energy. The cladding gives way for natural lighting in both structures. The E-Stack ventilation system minimal usage of AC Rain harvesting system installed on the adjacent building The adjacent building is a ‘smart building’ with the electro-chromic glass feature.

Roof top: solar panel (Kalzip AluPlusSolar) Pilkington Activ™ self cleaning glass Kalzip low u-value system (layer of metal sheeting) Low-e value glass

Electro-chromic glass: Advantages: Privacy Light control UV protection Temperature and energy control Comfort & productivity TGE glass provides thermal control. Water harvesting system
