TURBAN NOT A SYMBOL BUT ARTICLE OF FAITH

According to Sikh philosophy The Man who is conceived in Sikh Scriptures as a man with hair and turban on his head- “sabat-surat dastaar sirra: Complete Man with hair, beard and turban on his head.”

All The Sikh Gurus kept hair and beard, and all the Sikh Gurus and Apostles wore turbans.,

Guru Gobind Singh created the khalsa panth on the Baisakhi day (30 March) of A.D At that time the Khalsa was also instructed to ever wear the turban for the proper upkeep of his hair. Thus, the turban became an important religious article of faith of the Sikhs.

Turban became an essential as well as sacred part of his being.

A devout Sikh could get his head chopped off smilingly

but would never allow anybody maliciously touching his turban for which he always possesses utmost reverence, veneration and esteem.

Mani singh Ruler can take away life of a sikh, but not his faith or right of worship

Shabeg singh shahbaj singh Father and son duo sacrificed their lives but not their faith

Retaining his faith for sikh, is superior to retaining his life Banda singh bhadur-

Bricked alive for refusal to shed turban and hair Supreme sacrifice of younger sons of guru gobind singh

KHALSA WILL REMAIN EVER ALIVE, OPPRESSION AND TERROSIM THEY WILL ALWAYS FIGHT

TARU SINGH KHALSA LOVE AND RESPECT THEIR HAIR, THEY MAY BE MURDERED, THEY DON’T CARE

MANY LEGENDS ARE THERE TO TELL HAIR &TURBAN,AT NO COST THEY SELL

Sikhs rejected the steel-helmets in the battlefield during the wars..

Punishment for disobeying military command during the war was death, but the Sikhs did not care for it.

Law of the steel-helmet was changed, giving exemption to the Sikhs. The sanctity of the turban meant more to them..

The Divine law clashed with the secular law, and the Sikhs stood firmly by the Divine Law

GRANT TO SIKHS: THE GIFT OF FAITH, THE GIFT OF UNCUT HAIR, THE GIFT OF DISCIPLINE, GIFT OF THE KNOWLEDGE DAILY PRAYER OF SIKHS

A GITATION IN ENGLAND CONCERNING TURBAN An Act was promulgated in England in 1972 which ordained that anybody riding a motor-cycle, or scooter or a two wheeler must wear a steel helmet on the head to ensure safety. Sikh riders. refused to wear helmets instead of or over the turbans. At last The relevant act was amended

Let living in His presence, With the mind rid of impurities, Be your disciple. Keep the God given from intact, With a turban donned on your head. (SGGS, page-1084)

In the city of Wolverhampton in the UK, a Sikh students, named Kulwinder Singh, was expelled from the school in on the ground that he wore turban along with the school uniform.

Government. agreed that he has a right to keep the hair and wear turban because these closely relate to his religion and instructed the school authorities to re- admit the student and allow him to wear turban along with the uniform.

General Ventura French General in the Khalsa Army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh

Sikhs saved France in the first and second world wars sacrificing their lives for them with turbans on their heads. (83055 Sikhs perished and 1,09,045 wounded in these two world wars).

For a Sikh the turban is not a religious symbol as ‘cross’ in Christianity but most important part of the Sikh’s body and soul. It is in no way an ostensible sign of a religion but surely an inimitable aspect of the Sikh appearance and usual dress.

The foremost injunctions are : Cursed is a Sikh who goes out in the society without a turban or wears a cap instead of turban, who cuts or trims his beard and hair,. Those who contravene these commandments are treated as apostate Sikhs. Rehitnama Bhai Nand Lal (Sikh Code of Conduct in the Britsh Museum)

The turban is worn by the Sikhs under a divine command of the Founders of Sikhism, “No law can compel or coerce the Sikhs to change this Divine Law of our prophets, or modify it under any circumstances. The turban is a part of this moral and spiritual discipline and way of life.”

We hope, your Lordship will study the case and the law from the moral and religious point of view, and give the Sikhs freedom to preserve the sanctity of the turban, which is a symbol of their religious discipline and way of life.
