13. Research Paper Assignment

Today’s tasks 1. Introduce a new data set. 2. Discuss 3 rd Paper assignment 3. Discuss Norrander & Wilcox as an example of how to do analysis on a data set similar to ours.

Why a new data set? 1. Two types of data sets used in analysis—individual & aggregate. 2. The rest of the term we will be studying interval variables and there are few in the NES data. 3. We want you to learn to add a variable to a data set and that is hard to do with the NES data.

State Legislative Data Set Aggregate level data set: unit of analysis = state x chamber. Variables primarily based on a survey of state legislators. Codebook

The Norrander and Wilcox paper discusses a topic that can be examined with our data set. I have added a variable to the data pctwmc_1which shows the percent of women in the chamber at the time of the survey.
