Lesson 13: Calculating and Comparing Square Roots Expressions and Equations

A note on taking notes Today, anything that is in DARK RED should be in your notes, along with ALL the examples.

Vocabulary

Example 1: Finding Square roots of Perfect Squares

Simplifying Square Roots Not all numbers are square roots, but we can use our knowledge of perfect squares to estimate their values. Radicals fall under exponents in the order of operations because radicals can be written using fractional exponents.

Example 2: Estimating Square Roots

Example 3: Comparing Expressions Involving Square Roots

An Important Note

Example 4: Ballroom Dancing The area of a dance floor in the shape of a square is 289 square feet. What is the side length of the dance floor?

Correcting Homework Be kind. Trade with a neighbor. Double check for neatness/ink color. Be sure to write “C.B. __________” with your name. Please hold questions until the end.

Homework 1 st and 2 nd hour: Lesson 13 Pg # rd hour: Lesson 13 Pg #1-15 Note the following extra credit opportunity: Perfect squares to 25 poster
