Exercise / Drill 10 “ Core Stability Exercises ” Objective: To develop core stability in rugby players. Exercise / Drill set up Exercise / Drill explanation: 1) Stage 1: Players sit with legs out straight, opposite each other in pairs in rows A and B. Player A passes ball to player B outside line of his legs and player B returns pass on opposite side. 2) Stage 2: As above, but with an extra ball. 3) Stage 3: As above except one ball goes under, one goes over. 4) Stage 4: Player A throws passes at various heights to player B who catches them and returns them at waist height to player A. 5) Stage 5: Players pass at lower legs where player must bend forward to catch the ball. 6) Stage 6: Players sit back to back and transfer the ball around waists to each other. Key coaching points: Try and keep abdomen and lower back stable. Keep head up all the time Always breath slowly and try to relax.
