OH DYNAMIC TENANT! 21 STORIES John 14:15- 24

15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. John 14:15-24 (NLT) Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

19 Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live. 20 When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.” John 14:15-24 (NLT) Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

22 Judas (not Judas Iscariot, but the other disciple with that name) said to him, “Lord, why are you going to reveal yourself only to us and not to the world at large?” 23 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. 24 Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. John 14:15-24 (NLT) Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

1. Does God live in the church? Buildings…No. People…Yes! ( The Church (us) = The Body of Christ = The Temple of the Holy Spirit) TAKE HOME OH DYNAMIC TENANT! 3. The work of the Holy Spirit is an inside job individually and corporately. (Power passages: John 14 and 17) 2. As we open our hearts to Jesus, the Holy Spirit uses us in a powerful way. (The book of Acts is our example)

 Many can say with those disciples in Ephesus: Holy Spirit? What is that? Act 19  Jesus said that while we can’t see him (the Holy Spirit), his work is quite evident. John 3:8  The Holy Spirit never appeared in the flesh … so we don’t have a name or image to give him definition.  Yet Jesus promised that having the Holy Spirit would be much like living with him. John 14:23  Many can say with those disciples in Ephesus: Holy Spirit? What is that? Act 19  Jesus said that while we can’t see him (the Holy Spirit), his work is quite evident. John 3:8  The Holy Spirit never appeared in the flesh … so we don’t have a name or image to give him definition.  Yet Jesus promised that having the Holy Spirit would be much like living with him. John 14:23 THE MYSTERY MEMBER OF HEAVEN’S THREESOME … THE HOLY SPIRIT GOT SPIRIT?

 He delivers truth to them. --John 16:13  He will glorify Jesus. --John 16:14  The Apostles could expect revelations from Heaven. --John 16:15  He delivers truth to them. --John 16:13  He will glorify Jesus. --John 16:14  The Apostles could expect revelations from Heaven. --John 16:15 THE SPIRIT’S SPECIAL WORK AMONG THE APOSTLES SPIRIT WORKSHOP 101

 When praying --Romans 8:12-16  Guidance in daily living --Galatians 5:  In understanding God --I Corinthians 2:6- 16  When praying --Romans 8:12-16  Guidance in daily living --Galatians 5:  In understanding God --I Corinthians 2:6- 16 WE CAN EXPECT HEAVEN’S HELP… HOLY SPIRIT ASSISTANCE Romans 8 HEAVEN’S HELPER

 ‘You (plural) are God’s temple (singular) … and God’s Spirit lives in you (plural).’ --I Corinthians 3:16  So honor God with your body. (i.e. honor God as the church body ) --I Corinthians 6:19  Church is bound together by the work of the Spirit. --Ephesians 2:  ‘You (plural) are God’s temple (singular) … and God’s Spirit lives in you (plural).’ --I Corinthians 3:16  So honor God with your body. (i.e. honor God as the church body ) --I Corinthians 6:19  Church is bound together by the work of the Spirit. --Ephesians 2: THE SPIRIT LIVES IN US AS INDIVIDUALS … AND IN THE CHURCH GOD’S TEMPLE

1 Corinthians 3:16 (NLT) ( Newer translations incorporate a plural ‘you’) Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you (all)? COMMON ERROR: THINKING THAT MY INDIVIDUAL BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF GOD GOD’S TEMPLE IS ALL OF US 1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV) (Because there is no plural ‘you’ in English. older translation tend to be misleading) Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

John 17:22-23: I have given them (disciples/church) the glory you gave me, so they (that’s you AND me) may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. GOD’S TEMPLE IS ALL OF US  There is nothing more powerful than a Spirit filled Church.  Together we become powerful through the unifying power of the Spirit!  When our Church relies fully on the Spirit of God we become powerful, individually and collectively.  There is nothing more powerful than a Spirit filled Church.  Together we become powerful through the unifying power of the Spirit!  When our Church relies fully on the Spirit of God we become powerful, individually and collectively. THE SECRET OF A POWERFUL CHURCH REMEMBER: EVEN THE LONE RANGER NEEDED TONTO!

 Fill me (us)!  Lead me (us)!  Convict me (us)!  Comfort me (us)!  Strengthen me (us)!  Fill me (us)!  Lead me (us)!  Convict me (us)!  Comfort me (us)!  Strengthen me (us)! O, DIVINE AND DYNAMIC TENANT. O, SWEET SPIRIT OF GOD JUST SAY ‘DO IT’!
