Smarter Balanced assessments are designed as untimed tests; some students may need and should be afforded more time than shown in this table.

Performance Tasks The PTs are unique student activities that complement the field tests’ general test items and provide a deeper understanding of a student’s true achievement. A PT begins with a classroom activity to ensure that all students have a common understanding of the contextual elements of a PT topic. The PT is then administered on a computer, requiring students to answer a set of complex questions that are centered on the theme of the preceding classroom activity.
