What can students take? A student must take one course from each of the Required and Flexible Areas (Required A is 2 courses). A student can take any course in a Core Area as long as he or she has the prerequisite. Some programs restrict which courses can be taken in the Flexible Core. Why is this being done? B.I.14 - RESOLUTION ON CREATING AN EFFICIENT TRANSFER SYSTEM “The City University of New York experiences large student transfer flows among all of its undergraduate colleges. What happens when students transfer? Senior Colleges have an additional 6-12 credit College Option requirement – Associate degree graduates will be required to complete 6 credits after transfer – Transfers with more than 30 credits will be required to complete 9 credits after transfer plus whatever Common Core requirements that they have not completed – Transfers with less than 30 credits will be required to complete 12 credits after transfer plus whatever Common Core requirements that they have not completed – Students that transfer into CUNY colleges with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution will be exempted from the Common Core.
