ISIC Rev. 4 Section C: “Manufacturing” Review of new divisions 26-28

Manufacturing in ISIC Rev.4  Manufacturing as a “historical” area remains relatively stable  Application rules remain mostly intact top-down approach vertical integration outsourcing  Changes in detail for manufacturing: ISIC Rev.3.1ISIC Rev. 4 Sections11 Divisions2324 Groups6171 Classes127137

Structural changes in the manufacturing section of ISIC Rev.4  There are different kind of structural changes: Splitting of existing divisions, i.e. elevating activities to a higher level  Examples: food and beverage manufacturing furniture manufacturing pharmaceuticals Separation of certain activities, i.e. recognition as separate activities  Examples: repair and maintenance installation of machinery and equipment Complete reorganization of a cluster of activities  Example: ISIC Rev.4 Division 26-28

ISIC Rev.4 divisions 26 – 28  ISIC Rev.4 introduces 3 completely new manufacturing divisions: 26 – Manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products 27 – Manufacture of electrical equipment 28 – Manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c.  To a large extent, these divisions consist of a reorganization of the content of ISIC Rev.3.1 divisions: 29 – Manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. 30 – Manufacture of office, accounting and computing machinery 31 – Manufacture of electrical machinery and apparatus n.e.c. 32 – Manufacture of radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus 33 – Manufacture of medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks

26 – computers / electronics / optical equip. 27 – electrical equipment 28 – machinery / equip. n.e.c repair Other divisions 24 – chemical products – rubber / plastics products – non-metallic mineral products – basic metals 5 28 – fabricated metal products – machinery / equipment n.e.c – office, accounting, computing machinery – electrical machinery n.e.c – Radio, TV, communication equip – medical, precision, optical – motor vehicles, (semi-) trailers – other transport equip – furniture; other manufacturing n.e.c ISIC 4 ISIC 3.1

26 – computers / electronics / optical equip. 27 – electrical equipment 28 – machinery / equip. n.e.c repair Other divisions 24 – chemical products – rubber / plastics products – non-metallic mineral products – basic metals 5 28 – fabricated metal products – machinery / equipment n.e.c – office, accounting, computing machinery – electrical machinery n.e.c – Radio, TV, communication equip – medical, precision, optical – motor vehicles, (semi-) trailers – other transport equip – furniture; other manufacturing n.e.c ISIC 4 ISIC 3.1

26 – computers / electronics / optical equip. 24 – chemical products 2 25 – rubber / plastics products 1 26 – non-metallic mineral products 27 – basic metals 28 – fabricated metal products 29 – machinery / equipment n.e.c. 30 – office, accounting, computing machinery 2 31 – electrical machinery n.e.c – Radio, TV, communication equip – medical, precision, optical 6 34 – motor vehicles, (semi-) trailers 35 – other transport equip. 36 – furniture; other manufacturing n.e.c. 1 ISIC 4 ISIC – electrical equipment 28 – machinery / equip. n.e.c repair Other divisions Division 26: Computer and Electronic and Optical Manufacturing Draws together the manufacture of electronic products, such as: - semiconductors - integrated circuits - electronic capacitors - printed circuit boards - electronic connectors - computers and computer peripherals - consumer electronic products - communications equipment - electronic instruments - high-tech medical equip. (MRI, PET) - magnetic and optical media These items are brought together in one division because of: - Similar production processes - Keen interest in tech. manufacturing - outdated practices in ISIC Rev.3

26 – computers / electronics / optical equip. 24 – chemical products 2 25 – rubber / plastics products 1 26 – non-metallic mineral products 27 – basic metals 28 – fabricated metal products 29 – machinery / equipment n.e.c. 30 – office, accounting, computing machinery 2 31 – electrical machinery n.e.c – Radio, TV, communication equip – medical, precision, optical 6 34 – motor vehicles, (semi-) trailers 35 – other transport equip. 36 – furniture; other manufacturing n.e.c. 1 ISIC 4 ISIC 3.1 Division 26: Computer and Electronic and Optical Manufacturing Manufacture of electronic components and boards 262 – Manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment 263 – Manufacture of communication equipment 264 – Manufacture of consumer electronics 265 – Manufacture of measuring, testing, navigating and control equipment; watches and clocks 266 – Manufacture of irradiation, electromedical and electrotherapeutic equipment 267 – Manufacture of optical instrument and photographic equipment 268 – Manufacture of magnetic and optical media

24 – chemical products 25 – rubber / plastics products 26 – non-metallic mineral products 27 – basic metals 28 – fabricated metal products 29 – machinery / equipment n.e.c. 30 – office, accounting, computing machinery 31 – electrical machinery n.e.c. 32 – Radio, TV, communication equip. 33 – medical, precision, optical 34 – motor vehicles, (semi-) trailers 35 – other transport equip. 36 – furniture; other manufacturing n.e.c.
