Canto 16 of Dante’s Inferno By Robby Seibert Engl

Overview of Canto XVI Canto 16 takes place in the 3 rd round of the 7 th circle. Dante is met by three of his fellow citizens who have died. They recognize him by his clothing. After talking to them, he remembers them as townspeople of Florence.

Overview of Canto XVI (part 2) It is brought up how Jacopo Rusticucci accused his wife of sodomy. They question Dante as to the state of their beloved Florence. Virgil later throws Dante’s cord into the “deep abyss”, summoning the being that lives in it known as Geryon.

Landscape of Canto XVI Canto 16 opens in the third round of seventh circle. Water can be heard rushing down into the lower circles. Seventh circle includes a dark abyss.
