The Helper 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper [parakletos], that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” (John 14:15-17)

The Helper “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7)

The Helper 16 “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)

The Indwelling Spirit But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:11) You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

The Indwelling Spirit Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16) “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.” (Ezekiel 36:27)

The Indwelling Spirit 37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:37-39)

Another Helper 16 “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17) Another: heteros, allos

Another Helper “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7)

The Advocate 1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous… (1 John 2:1) “He will glorify Me…” (John 16:14)

The Advocate 26 “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, 27 and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.” (John 15:26-27)

The Advocate “This verse [John 16:14] is decisive against all additions and pretended revelations subsequent to and beside Christ. The work of the Spirit is to testify to the things of Christ and not to anything new or beyond Him. Therefore any good test for any claim for a new work of the Spirit of God is this: Is Christ glorified? Is Christ at the center? If Christians claim some blessing of the Spirit, have they a new love for Jesus, a new hunger for His Word, a new desire to tell others about Jesus? These are the crucial issues. And personal experiences without these Christ-centered consequences are either meaningless or counterfeit.” - David Watson

The Advocate 7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me…” (John 16:7-9)

The Advocate “He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.” (John 16:14)
