Developing renewable energy in Italy Rome, Villa Madama - March 13 th 2007

Italy is less diversified than its neighbors in terms of power generation (non-fossil sources)... *Source - Eurostat 2004/05 data, Company reports Power production breakdown by plant type *

... and is also lagging behind some of them in terms of renewable energy production, especially considering wind and solar capacity Renewable production breakdown by source* *Source - Eurostat, Terna – 2005 data

Only by leveraging on this large unexploited potential, will Italy succeed in achieving its 2010 renewable production target %renewable production/ total demand 2010 Italian target *Assuming 340 TWh of total power demand in 2010 Equivalent to ~30-35 TWh of additional renewable production* Effectively exploiting Italy’s wind and solar potential would help meet the 2010 target (25% of production from renewable sources). Closing this gap will require the country to invest no less than €bn.

Major European player in renewable components manufacturing industry With the support to investments from Italian government, and leverage of technology potential of Russian manufacturers, it is possible to create major European players in this sector Italian government support to investments in renewable industry Russian manufactures technology potential for renewable manufacturing 1 Solar panels production Wind plants production/ development Technology transfer Direct incentives and legislative support 2

Renova sees several concrete opportunities for cooperation in key sectors of the renewable value chain Silicon Wind turbines Solar panels Both Russia and Italy have strong mechanical manufacturers capable of producing gearboxes and wind blades Potential partner in Renova Group: Ural Turbine Plant Russia produces large volumes of silicon for metallurgical plants. Combined with relatively low energy cost, this creates significant potential for developing production of solar- grade silicon Potential partner in Renova Group: SUAL Oerlikon is the leader in equipment for producing “thin film” – the key component of solar panels. Jointly with Oerlikon, Renova can establish in Italy a major producer of thin-film solar panels Potential partner in Renova Group: Oerlikon
