Set-up RefWorks

Use your Western address

Log into RefWorks Off campus: RWUWestOnt

Set-up RefWorks account Use your UWO address Use a combination username and password that is different than your UWO username and password YOUR TURN

Import References Western Libraries Catalogue Research Databases Manually

Add records from the catalogue From the catalogue record – Click on RefWorks image

One Record at a time

Complete the import

Create a folder

Move citation into folder √

Generate Bibliography

Bibliography NEEDS EDITING!!!

Import a book from the shared catalogue Make a folder (TRYIT) Move to folder Create a bibliography YOUR TURN

Add many records from Catalogue 1.Mark records in catalogue 2.View marked records 3.Send saved records (MARC format) 4.Select & copy sent records 5.Open RefWorks and select IMPORT 6.Select import parameters and PASTE 7.Import 8.View Last Imported folder 9.Move to folder TRYIT 10.Create Bibliography and EDIT

4. Select All Records & Copy Use CTRL-A to select all text … and then CTRL-C to copy

5. Import to RefWorks Go to RefWorks Click on References Click on Import

6. Select Import Parameters & Paste

9. Put in folder TRYIT

10. Create Bibliography & Edit Chicago (Reference List) – 14 th Edn. NEEDS EDITING!!!

Your turn SEARCH CATALOGUE WITH KEYWORDS OF YOUR CHOICE 1.Mark records in catalogue 2.View marked records 3.Send saved records (MARC format) 4.Select & copy sent records 5.Open RefWorks and select IMPORT 6.Select import parameters and PASTE 7.Import 8.View Last Imported folder 9.Move to folder TRYIT 10.Create Bibliography and EDIT YOUR TURN

Add article citations from database Go to appropriate database (Library Literature, LISTA, Scholars Portal) Three basic steps each time: 1.Search for items 2.Mark items of interest 3.Export marked records to RefWorks

Create & Edit References Manually Select Add New References from Reference drop-down menu Choose Folder to save in Choose Ref Type (Journal Article, web page, unpublished material) Save Can always edit more later

Share References Share citation lists with others whether or not they have RefWorks account Stable URL is created – can be ed, added to WebCT or course page or embedded in any website or document To access go to Tools – Share References
