How to structure an essay Step-by-step guide

Model essay An essay usually has the following structure: Headline Introduction Body Ending/close/conclusion The four parts are explained on the following slides.

HEADLINE The headline should be brief and precise/catchy.

INTRODUCTION Write a general introduction to the topic in which you include e.g. a question, a statement, facts or a quotation.

BODY Structure the contents of your essay in clearly defined sections. Arrange the contents logically. Make sure you address all the issues mentioned in the instructions. Discuss all the aspects of the topic. Illustrate your points of view by giving examples. Do not use “I”.

CONCLUSION End the essay appropriately e.g. by summarising the main points concluding on the overall topic providing final comments
