Information about the causes and effects of the obesity

 Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and other mammals, exceeds healthy limits. It is commonly defined as a body mass index (weight divided by height squared) of 30 kg/m2 or higher. (Encarta 2008)

 Genetics: Genes play a part in how your body balances calories and energy. Children whose parents are obese also tend to be overweight.  Physical Inactivity :Overweight people are usually less physically active than normal weight people. Seriously overweight people may have difficulty moving.

 Gender /Age  Medical Problems  Lifestyle

 diabetes - Obesity is the major cause of type 2 diabetes. This type of diabetes begins in adulthood. Obesity can cause resistance to insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar. When obesity causes insulin resistance, the blood sugar becomes elevated. Even moderate obesity dramatically increases the risk of diabetes.  cancer - Men who are overweight have a higher risk of colon and prostate cancers.

 heart disease  joint problems  high blood pressure OBESITY CAN ALSO CAUSE :

My Action Research

Why Did I Choose This Topic? I chose this topic because there are a lot of obese students in my school, and I wanted to know more about their feelings.

How Did I Get My Resources? I gave a questionnaire to 37 students, 12 of them are obese and 25 were regular students. And their ages were from 12 years to 15.

My Questionnaire Results

The Feelings of The Obese Students in Omar Prep School The first question in my questionnaire was about the weight of the obese students. The students who filled my questionnaire were about KG

Q2. Have your friends ever laughed at you because of your weight ? 35% of the students answered ‘Yes’ while 65% answered ‘No’

Q3. Do you think teachers treat you like the other students ? 65% of the students answered ‘Yes’ while 35% answered ‘No’

Q4. Have you ever gone on a diet ? 65% of the students answered ‘Yes’ while 35% answered ‘No’

Q5. Do you think obesity can affect your grades and marks ? 25% of the students answered ‘Yes’ while 75% answered ‘No’ most reasons for this affect were the different way of thinking

Q6. Have you experienced any problem in the school because you are overweight ? Some of the students answers were: I’m not treated like the other students. Having trouble in the physical education lessons.

The Attitude Toward Them

Q1. What do you think about the fat students ? Not smart 12% Like the other students 84% He doesn’t have a good relations to others

Q2. Have you ever laughed at a fat student because of his weight? 32% of the students answered ‘Yes’ while 68% answered ‘No’

Q3. Do you think teachers treat the fat students like the other students ? 54% of the students answered ‘Yes’ while 46% answered ‘No’

Q4. Do you think obesity can affect the students’ grades ? 16% of the students answered ‘Yes’ while 84% answered ‘No’ Some reasons : - The fats can affect the brain - He only cares about the food

Q5. Do you think the fat students are different from the other students? 16% of the students answered ‘Yes’ while 84% answered ‘No’ - The physical appearance - Only think about food - Everybody hate him

Conclusion In my opinion, the regular students have a wrong idea about the obese students in my school because the fat students don’t feel that their weight makes them different, but the regular students do.
