About Downingtown… 82 square miles located in Southeastern Pennsylvania 10 elementary, 2 middle and 3 high schools 11,900 students 1500 staff Ranked 21st out of 500 Districts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (based on student performance on the state PSSA exam in the fall of 2011).

Board Goal School Board Goal 2011-12 and renewed for 2012-13: Work purposefully toward enhancing the mental, social, emotional, and physical health of staff and students in order to achieve higher student academic achievement, increased staff satisfaction, a positive school climate, greater efficiency, and the development of a school culture that promotes and enhances student growth. Purpose: This goal is to create mechanisms across the district that will promote wellness. Vision Plank – Increase student achievement, increase professional development opportunities staff, and become more fiscally responsible. Action Items A. Health Trends Personal Health Profiles showed: High blood pressure and pre-hypertension High cholesterol Diabetes, or at risk for diabetes Group medical claims showed: Lifestyle related issues (poor diet, lack of exercise) accounted for 12% of claims Group prescription claims showed: High blood pressure, heart disease diabetes
