PRESENTER: AMINA HYDROCARBON CHEMISTRY 10TH SEPTEMBER 2012 HYPOTHESIS ONFUTURE ENERGY GEOTHERMAL ENERGY ( HYDRO THERMAL ENERGY)

UNDERSTANDING TERMS Geothermal energy is the energy that is been generated and stored in the earth. The energy is gotten from volcanoes, hot springs, geysers etc. Main sources: Hydro thermal, geo pressured. Hot dry rocks, and magma. Concentration: Hydro thermal energy.

HYPOTHESIS Hydro thermal, a source of geothermal energy can be a source for generating electricity and heat for minor use.

Aim Generate heat at high temperature from beneath the earth surface to produce electricity Generate heat at low temperature beneath earth surface for minor heating.

Conclusion Economic importance It is renewable Cleaner energy when compared to fossil fuel: less pollution Readily available sustainable Hazards Steam and hot water contains natural traces of hydrogen sulfide and other gases. Solutions Use of SCRUBBER system to clean the air The gases can be converted to marketable products e.g. liquid fertilizer.
