Thomas Nast by Bethany Yance US Honor SS class

Questions Who was he? How was he successful? What does he do? How was he important? Why did he became successful? How was he related to business?

-Who was Thomas Nast- Thomas Nast was a cartoonist and creater of the modern santa claus. Also he created Republican Elephant. He can't read nor write. Thomas had more influence than other cartoonists of his time. He helped shape customs to not only America but to world. He drew battles during Civil War.

Thomas' life He is an immigrant with his family. He loved to draw. His first job as a cartoonist is at Harper. Later, he was hired at New York. He was really good at drawing. He was best known for his Christmas drawings. He was the first to decide Santa's home. Thomas decided Santa's home would be at North Pole, so that he's a citizen of the world.

His work Thomas' idea of Christmas were spreading quickly. People started to write Christmas Cards. He also drew for politics, wars during Civil War. Thomas became a wealthy man. His salary was a bit less than the president! He illustrated over 70 books. He is remembered as a successful politic cartoonist.
