Luke 14:25-33

LK 14:25 Now large crowds were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them, LK 14:26 “ If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. LK 14:27 “Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. Luke 14:23-27

LK LK 14:28 “For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? LK 14:29 “Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, LK 14:30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ Luke 14:28-30

LK 14:31 “Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand? LK 14:32 “Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. LK 14:33 “So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions. Luke 14:31-33

Which part of this line do you and I stand?

Familyrelationships

LK 14:25 Now large crowds were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them, LK 14:26 “ If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Luke 14:23-27

SelfAbandonment

“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. Luke 14:23-27

MK 10:28 Peter began to say to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You.” MK 10:29 Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, MK 10:30 but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. Mark 10:28-30

Possessions

“So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions. Luke 14:31-33

I cannot be His disciple if I’m not surrendered.

How do we surrender in complete abandonment like that? What compels someone to surrender everything?

MT 13:44 “ The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. MT 13:45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, MT 13:46 and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. Matthew 13:44-46

Surrender happens when we discover Jesus as our hidden treasure and our pearl of great price!

Our surrender is proportional to the degree that we see Jesus as the pearl of great price!
