PROLOGUE THIS IS NOT A RULES CD In more than 20 years of teaching Golf, I have had the chance to play with all kinds of golfers. I have witnessed how hard most of them find using and applying the right Rule at the right moment. This is not surprising: the Rules Book is not exactly easy or entertaining reading, and can be really confusing for the beginner. The use the official Rules book makes of a very technical and legal language is totally understandable given the purses at stake in today´s professional tournaments, where all situations must be covered. The publication you have in your hands is only a simple handbook intended to help you understand the basic Rules of Golf. It does not include every Rule, because we would then be in the same situation as with the official Rule book. All I cover is the most essential and frequent situations on the golf course. You will see that there are not numbers, chapters or paragraphs. I do not even follow the order of the official Rules book, but one which I consider more logical, this is, from tee to green. If you get to know and understand this manual, you will already know 90% of the Rules of Golf. And the most important thing, when you are in doubt, please ask your local pro. Enjoy it, Adrian Hubert 1

THE ETIQUETTE OF GOLF A golfer can get to be the best in his club, his county or his country. As important as playing good golf is to behave and conduct properly on the golf course. In fact, it is possible that no matter how good a player gets to be, nobody will want to play with him if he is slow, does not stop moving around, talking or disturbing others and doesn´t look after the golf course in the proper way. For this reason we all must observe these easy rules of behaviour on the golf course. It costs nothing and it is in the benefit of everybody. 61
