How to edit your company on LinkedIn

Why does it matter? LinkedIn is becoming an increasingly popular tool for professional networking. It provides a platform for showing what motivates you in your career and what you have already achieved, including degrees, published papers, awards, and more. If you don’t already have one, sign up for an account at By following the IGB company page, you will receive news updates about the Institute as well as its employment opportunities, which may fit your career aspirations. By using the Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB) as your company on your profile, you can showcase the unique research environment that helps you achieve success.

Move your cursor over Profile at the top of your homepage and select Edit Profile.

Scroll down to the Experience section and click the Edit icon next to the position you'd like to edit.

Next click Change Company. Then under Company Name, type “Institute for Genomic Biology” and select Institute for Genomic Biology from the drop menu.

Next, click Edit Display Name. Enter “Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois” and then click the Save.

After you click save, you will automatically return to the main page where you will need to scroll to the top to select Done editing.

Done! Now your LinkedIn profile is linked to the IGB company page where your connections can learn more about the Institute and its goals. By editing the display name, your connections will also recognize that you work for the University of Illinois.
