 The topic is what the text is about, or the subject.  It can be described using only one word.  The theme is the lesson or idea the author wants you to get from the text. Theme

 This is the most important idea about the topic and is usually written in one or two sentences.  These are pieces of information that support the main idea.

 The main idea is not the same as the topic.main ideatopic  The supporting details have to support the main idea, not just the topic.

Juan loves to play games. His favorite game is chess because it requires a great deal of thought. Juan also likes to play less demanding board games that are based mostly on luck. I wasn’t able to go to my friend’s house because I had to get up early the next morning for camp. The last day of school was definitely the best part of the day! a.
