The Only One  I am the only one in my family to ever go to a University.  Out of 2 grandparents, 6 children, and 10 grandchildren, I am the only grandchild to go to a University.  If it wasn’t for my high school accountant teacher, I almost wouldn’t have been a BRONCO!!!!

Young Black Male Support Network  GoRSO Background - The Young Black Males Support Network is one of WMU's Premiere RSOs. With over 40 members attending weekly meetings, we are WMU's largest minority organization. For over 20years we have attempted to help incoming student build a solid foundation to build their college careers on by providing a network of older students from similar backgrounds to provide advice.

YBMSN Continued ( Our Pledge) I PLEDGE I WILL STRIVE TO LOVE MY BROTHER AS I LOVE MY SELF I WILL STRIVE TO IMPROVE MYSELF SPIRITUALLY MORALLY MENTALLY SOCIALLY POLITICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF MYSELF MY FAMILY AND MY COMMUNITY. I PLEDGE I WILL NEVER RAISE MY HAND IN VIOLENCE AT ANY MEMBER OF MY FAMILY OR HUMAN BEING EXCEPT IN SELF DEFENSE. I PLEDGE I WILL NEVER ABUSE MY SISTER BY STRIKING HER OR DISRESPECTING HER, FOR SHE IS THE MOTHER OF MY CHILDREN AND PRODUCER OF MY FUTURE I PLEDGE I WILL NEVER ENGAGE OF THE ABUSE OF CHILDREN, FOR THEY ARE THE GLORY OF OLD MEN AND THE GLORY OF CHILDREN ARE THEIR FATHERS. I PLEDGE TO TEACH MY CHILDREN THE WAY THEY SHOULD BE SO WHEN THEY GROW OLD THEY CAN BE STRONG MEN AND WOMEN. I PLEDGE I WILL NOT POISON MY BODY WITH DRUGS OR ANY SUBSTANCE THAT IS DESTRUCTIVE TO MY HEALTH AND WELL BEING I PLEDGE I WILL ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES THAT WILL POSITIVELY AND EFFECTIVELY BENEFIT MY SELF, MY COMMUNITY, AND MY ENVIRONMENT

YBMSN Continued  I am the only one out of the original Four freshman left on the Executive board of this GoRSO.  This organization has contributed to my academic success.

Resident Assistant Position  During this year, I have earned a Resident Assistant position.  The position pays for my room and board (around $4000) as long as I’m an RA.  The position will give me work experience that anyone would be blessed to have.

Resident Assistant (Continued)  The purpose of the Resident Assistant (RA) is to enhance the quality of life in the residence halls while supporting the academic mission of the university for the students in that community. The position requires an individual who is flexible enough to assume a variety of roles as dictated by the changing needs of students. It is crucial that an individual be able to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities. The RA is more than just a friendly presence; she/he is the crucial link in creating an environment in which students develop independence and learn to live cooperatively with others.

Final Note  Only success is seen in my future if I continue on the path I’m on now.  It’s A Great Day To Be A Bronco!
