Data Buoy and Severe Weather in Southeast Coast of Brazil - Catarina X Reunião do ISABP Arraial do Cabo, RJ - Brasil
In the last March, a severe weather system that caused a lot of misunderstand among meteorologists, specially in Brasil developed at the sea under the followings conditions: - high pressure system blockade - front system/ZCAS over the central Brasil - “cut off” low - “comma inverted”
We initiated an investigation to understand why it was so difficult to forecasted the real severity of that oceanic system In the first view we thought that there wasn’t any drifter in the ocean near the development place of the severe weather system, because nothing was plotted in the meteorological analysis After that we looked for the results of the numerical weather model used by INMET and we noted that NWP system forescasted pressure fields superstimated But, then

This event showed us: the sea temperature provided by satellite agreeded with the drifters data the absense of drifters data was not true drifter pressure data will provide good information by forecasters and NWP
