Some records are suppressed in the OPAC and are only visible in the staff client (the Technical module, such as Cataloging or Acquisitions) Searching in the staff client has more options Records in the staff client display more information including the history of the record which can be helpful in tracing an item Edits or corrections can only be made in the staff client, not the OPAC. During the course of searching, you may stumble across records needing work. The OPAC gives a clear view of what the public sees. An excellent way to check work done in the staff client.
