E. B. White Elwyn Brooks White was born on July 11,1899, in Mount Vernon, New York. Though his father owned a piano manufacturing company and there were always musical instruments around, Elwyn and his five siblings didn't seem to have any musical talent. Instead, White showed an early penchant for writing. He published his first story, “A Winter Walk,” in a magazine for young readers when he was 12 years old, according to the Greenville Public Library. White attended Cornell University, where he acquired the nickname “Andy.” In 1925, he returned to New York and had his first piece, “Defense of the Bronx River,” published in The New Yorker magazine, formally launching his illustrious writing career and long association with the magazine. Book review I really love this novel, is a beautiful fantasy with universal themes such as: the circle of life, birth, friendship, leaving home, love, loyalty and death. The author led us to the story thru out the interaction of the characters while they explore their relationship with each other. It is the simplicity of the farm life with a touch of fantasy, where animal talk and a spider writes. When E. B. White wrote this literary work he wanted to portrait a celebration! It is a lyrical excitement, of his admiration for the farm life. Cont. Book review The characters where interesting, the taking animals caught my attention because the author used realistic situations, in which I felt related many times. My favorite characters were Wilbur, Fern and Charlotte. Charlotte’s characteristics given by the author are similar to the one we teachers need to emulate. Teaching with patience, love and consistency, are the backbone for a sound education. Also the friendship that Wilbur and Charlotte share is beautiful and you could see how they bond throughout the novel and how their friendship gets stronger. Their friendship prove to be reliable, even throughout life and dead situation. Henceforward my appreciation for a friendship that is ever lasting. Fern father wanted to kill Wilbur because he was different from the other pigs, opening the door to the discussion of discrimination.
