 Democracy is government in which power and civic responsibility are exercised by all adult citizens, directly, or through their freely elected representatives.  principles of majority rule and individual rights  guard against all-powerful central governments  protect such basic human rights as freedom of speech and religion; the right to equal protection under law  conduct regular free and fair elections open to citizens of voting age.

 An Oligarchy is a form of government where most political power effectively rests with a small segment of society (typically the most powerful, whether by wealth, military strength, political influence). The elite run the show  It is a government by the rich for the rich.  Bermuda was an oligarchy during slavery and segregation.

 Ruled by one person  Remain head of state for life  Power is passed onto children or family (Hereditary)  Has complete control over body of people in country

 One person (dictator) rules with iron fist.  total control of society; an attempt to dominate all spheres of social life  censorship, monopoly for information, centrally steered propaganda  ideology - official and obligatory for all  lack of legal opposition parties, rules of a mass mono-party  radical detachment from the past
